Rocket Racing Archive
Section 03

Seasons & Official Content Eras

Rocket Racing recieved exactly three named content eras (Season Zero and two themed seasons) before the October 2024 pivot to unthemed “ranked periods.” (Note: the Fortnite Wiki and some community sources number these later unthemed ranked periods “Season 3,” “Season 4,” etc.; where this archive cites a “Season 3/4,” that community naming is meant.) Over its lifetime the mode accumulated 53 total tracks (20 Novice, 18 Advanced, 15 Expert), per the Fortnite wiki (source) (unverified), up from 26 at launch.

3.1 Season Zero (December 8, 2023 to April 9, 2024)

The launch season, running roughly four months (source). Internally, Season Zero shipped its onboarding quests as a “Kickoff” quest pack (maintainer datamine; the pair “Speed Run Kickoff” and “Season Zero Tune Up” quests are referenced in Epic’s own v29.00 patch notes as extended to v29.20; Rocket Racing Discord #announcements, March 9, 2024).

Attribute Detail
Start December 8, 2023 (source)
End April 9, 2024, superseded by Season 1 (source)
Tracks 26 at launch: 9 Novice, 7 Advanced, 10 Expert (source)
Ranked 8 tiers, Bronze → Unreal; all tracks unlock at Diamond (source)
Mechanics Drift, Fly, Turbo, Air Dodge; up to 12 players per race (source)
Cross game cars Four Rocket League bodies shared at launch; the full roster lives in Section 13.1 (source)
Midseason updates v28.20 (Feb 2024): new Advanced tracks; v28.30: Speed Run mode with leaderboards (source); Mar 20, 2024: UEFN track creation (source)

Season Zero’s length itself became a community grievance: creators publicly asked “WHY ARE WE STILL IN SEASON 0” before Neon Rush arrived (see links: YouTube) (unverified).

3.2 Season 1: Neon Rush (April 9 to July 23, 2024)

3.3 Season 2: Inferno Island (July 23 to October 11, 2024)

The second and final themed season, tropical/volcanic in theme.

Attribute Detail
Start July 23, 2024 (source)
New tracks (7) 5 Epic made: Obsidian, Seafoam Cove, Skull Rock Isle, Twin Flame Island, Azure Grotto; 2 by creator team 404 Creative (source)
New playlist Casual Racing playlist introduced (source)
End Extended to October 11, 2024, 2 AM ET (unverified) (source)
Legacy Last themed season ever; v31.40 “brings the theme back to the starting line” (source)

End date conflict: this archive records the season as extended to October 11, 2024, 2 AM ET, on the strength of a FortByteNews tweet (source) (unverified); the Fortnite Fandom wiki instead gives October 1, 2024 (source). The v31.40 goodbye patch on October 11-12 is consistent with either date. The official Discord’s export sides with October 11 and shows the confusion was a chain of moving end dates. Per community messages: Neon Rush was expected to end June 28, 2024 (RR #rocket-racing-chat, May 26, 2024); when leakers found the season’s quest end dates pushed to October in the API, players clarified “the date was since fixed to be July” (RR #rocket-racing-chat, June 5, 2024); and by late September the word on Inferno Island was “they extended season end to the 11th” (RR #rocket-racing-chat, September 24, 2024). Staff posts line up: Psyonix staffer Laudie, “The Ranked period is ending soon! In two weeks, we’ll be resetting player’s ranks” (RR #announcements, September 25, 2024), and Devin, “Ranks were reset a bit early… more info to share once v31.40 is live” (RR #rr-game-status, October 11, 2024).

3.4 The Ranked Periods Era (October 2024 to October 2026)

After v31.40 (October 11-12, 2024), the patch whose notes read “v31.40 brings the theme back to the starting line as we say goodbye to Inferno Island and themed updates,” named seasons were replaced by unthemed ranked periods with refreshed quests, car items and daily creator made tracks (source). Key characteristics of the era:

  • Reward consolidation: From December 2024 (Chapter 6 Season 1 / Winter 2025 ranked period), Rocket Racing’s ranked rewards were folded into a single combined reward track shared with Battle Royale, Zero Build and Reload (source) (unverified).
  • News freeze: No dedicated news feed updates after October 2024; 2025 ran ranked resets on Fortnite’s chapter cadence (source) (unverified). The freeze was blog side only: Epic’s weekly track rotation posts ran every Tuesday, unbroken, from June 4, 2024 (started by Devin) to March 17, 2026 (last posted by Capybro) (RR #announcements). One of the era’s few brand moments was a 2024 NASCAR collaboration (see links: Dexerto) (unverified).
  • Shutdown phase: After the March 24, 2026 announcement, Ranked Quests ended March 29, 2026 at 10 PM ET and subsequent ranked seasons carry no rewards (source) (unverified); the in mode track templates were removed and the racing toolset migrated to base UEFN in April 2026 (source). The mode remains playable in wind down until its October 2026 removal (source).
